QUICK HITS: Tips and Tricks with Slate: Understanding Dependent and Independent Subqueries

Last week I was asked by a client to tell her what the difference is between “dependent” and “independent” subqueries in Technolutions Slate. The best way I could do it was through a visual right on the call. While the use of independent subqueries is minimal for most, as data reporting and data architecture in Slate gets more advanced, independent subqueries can be super powerful!

We use them a lot with program datasets in an instance to pull program specific data that wouldn’t be on an actual student record itself. That way we have data in one spot for each program and then pull that information into communications, queries, applications, etc.
