Program Portfolio Strategy
Finding the right blend of programs, modalities, and degree and non-degree offerings is imperative to staying ahead of changes in student and employer demand. Kennedy & Company partners with institutional leadership and faculty to identify the right program mix and where the best new opportunities for programs may lie. Our analysis considers where the competition hasn’t already created high barriers to entry and where the institution itself has interest, capacity, and capability for different offerings. We work with institutions looking to offer new majors, to expand their offerings to new campuses, and to take existing programs and reformat them for new modalities. Beyond this, we explore helping schools expand their mission into workforce development, non-degree credentials, education-as-a-benefit partnerships, and course-sharing consortiums.

OUR APPROACH:

At Kennedy & Company, our consultants perform thorough market research to determine our client’s current market position and identify the competition. In addition to our broad market and competitive research capabilities, we provide primary research including surveys, focus groups, and interviews of stakeholders and potential students.

Throughout the process, we utilize quantitative and qualitative data to conduct a full program review and market demand analysis to evaluate the health of the current programs offered and potential opportunities.

Academic Portfolio Growth

Baylord University

Kennedy & Company partnered with Baylor University to assist the institution in defining a strategy and goals for the growth of its graduate professional academic program portfolio. Our team worked closely with a task force of professional school deans and representatives of the Provost’s Office and engaged functional and academic unit stakeholders across the institution.‍In addition to defining the strategy and establishing measurable goals and tactics for both new and existing programs, our team identified a set of barriers that were inhibiting program innovation in graduate professional education (GPE) at Baylor. Kennedy & Company developed recommendations to address each of these barriers and integrated these recommendations into both the goals for the GPE portfolio and a high-level implementation plan.

Online Program Strategy & Launch

Spelman College

Kennedy & Company worked with Spelman College leadership and its Board’s Alternative Revenue Committee to develop a 10-year strategic initiative focused on developing new online programs to serve as alternative revenue sources for the institution. Central to the development of the new plan was a thorough understanding of the market and competition for Spelman’s potential online offerings, as well as primary research on the most promising potential programs. Kennedy & Company produced a full strategic initiative plan for the Board, complete with a 10-year financial and operational prospectus.
